Well, sick again!

01 Feb

Hello all –

It’s Wednesday morning here and it’s raining.  I guess, from what the natives tell me, that this will be a short raining period – maybe a week, or so – and then it will begin the hot season.  Also, some people have began to burn off their fields or their piles of muck that they’ve been accumulating, so I guess we should be prepared to live in some smoke for a while.  Some people around here said that Feb and Mar get so bad that you just want to get out of here.  We’ll see how she goes!

Justus, I pray not from the smoke, has been experiencing some allergy stuff.  It began with hearing the crackling in his breathing, coughing, and red, runny eyes.  It got worse on Thursday, so on Friday morning I took him into the doctor and he said that on his right side there was quite a build-up of fluids and could already be producing an infection.  He got put on antibiotics and cough medicine.

Back in the states he had been diagnosed with the beginning signs of asthma, so I pray that this season we’re coming into is not just a miserable one for him.  He’s so good about it, though, he never really complains, just goes about his business and plays as hard as ever.

Speaking of playing as hard as ever, we took them to the Night Safari Friday at noon.  We let them play in the new play area and on the playground for about 3 1/2 hours.  There were probably 4 different Thai school classes there at any given time, so it was a little crazy, but the kids still had fun.  Some little girls – probably about 11 or 12 years old – came up to Justus and wanted to take their picture with him.  He ran and hid behind the play equipment.  Daddy saw all of this, so he told Canaan to go down and let them take a picture with him.  He walked right on down and let them pose with him, as they took turns taking their picture with Canaan.  I was a little shocked at this just because he’s normally the one to shy away from that, but Justus doesn’t!  Go figure, just when you think you know what they’ll do, they surprise you!  I’m just glad that it was a good surprise this time!!  :-)

Then on Friday night it was my turn to get sick.  Well, I actually laid in bed from midnight to 5 a.m. thinking that I wanted to puke, but never moved.  Once I got up to use the restroom, I took my bucket, and then sure enough – both ends let loose!!  (Great visual, huh!)  Not too pleasant – I know knew how poor Mikayln was feeling just a few nights before.  You didn’t feel good afterwards, but you were fine if you just laid still.  So for all of Saturday, that’s what I did – laid still.  Mikayln went to her basketball practice – daddy said she did great!  Her knee is not 100%, but it’s looking so much better.  Then Saturday night the family, without mom, went to the Senior Carnival that Justus asked about that day — maybe only 45 times :-) — to play games, eat, and watch Robin Hood – just one more time.  We’ve probably only had to endure that movie about 20 times in the last two weeks – so that’s not only once a day, but sometimes twice.  The other two kids, dad, and even mom have put a halt on all showings of Robin Hood at our home for right now.  It’s pretty pitiful – dad and mom walking around the house whistling the tune to Robin Hood – yikes!!  They all had a great time, though, and Mikayln and Canaan said that Justus went up to all of the seniors that were dressed up and asked them if he could hold their sword, bow and arrow, etc.  He is certainly not our bashful one, well, except with the ladies perhaps!  :-)

Well, we will be going to a play that Canaan has in his 3rd grade class today.  He kind of came in late on the whole thing, so he is the narrator for one of the plays.  They are doing 3 or 4 different ones.  Last night we were talking about it and he was reading it over again, and I told him that he was going to do great.  He said, “well, mom, I wonder why I have to be up front and in the play when I’m just the narrator.”  I said, “what do you mean, bud!”  He said, “well, I’m actually in the play, so that’s why I have to memorize my part as narrator.”  OK, so I didn’t know that he had to memorize his parts.  Obviously I thought that he’d be reading from the page.  We went back and forth just to make sure that he heard that part right and he assured me that he had to memorize it.  So, now, mommy was nervous for him.  He wasn’t nervous at all, but I was.  I was thinking that would be a bit crazy.  Anyway, not to fear, we were riding our bikes to school today and I asked him if he could tell me some of his parts, so he started to rattle off a couple of them.  Then he said, “well, after Seth says…., then I say …!”  I said, “bud, did you memorize Seth’s part too?”  He turned and he looked at me like I was crazy, and he said, “mom, I memorized the whole play!”  Well, OK, then, I guess he told me!  I was a little shocked, but I guess not too much, it was just a little funny how nonchalant he was about it.  Anyway, it should be a good play today.  I’ll take some pictures!

Tonight after school, we then go to Mikayln’s game at CMIS.  She actually has two games, so will play another team that will also be there after the CMIS game.  She’s excited for it.  Mommy was showing her how to do a fast break lay-up because daddy said that during practice on Wednesday, she stole the ball about 5 times — that definitely makes her mommy proud!!  We’ll let you know how it all goes tomorrow.  Curtis leaves tomorrow and he’ll be back Saturday night.

Love you all — have a great day!!  Many blessings to you all — thank you so much for your prayers and support!
